Building Code & Zoning Enforcement

The Building, Code and Zoning Enforcement Department provide guidance and information to protect the health, safety and welfare for the residents of North Braddock. The department is responsible for enforcing the regulations related to:

  • Property Maintenance
  • Residential and Rental Occupancy
  • Commercial Fire Safety
  • Building Construction
  • Zoning Ordinance Administration

Building Permits

An owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, alter, move, repair, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit. Building permits are required for activities such as: roof repairs or replacement, construction of sheds (zoning permit also required), and the construction of a garage (zoning permit also required).

Code Enforcement

Property owners and tenants are required to maintain their property or residence in compliance with Borough codes. All properties shall be maintained in a clean and sanitary manner to prevent blight. Occupancy and Residential Permits and Inspections

All property (residential and commercial) sold in the Borough must obtain an occupancy permit and inspection. The transfer of property cannot be finalized until an occupancy permit is issued. All residential rental properties must obtain a rental permit before a property can be occupied. Rental properties are licensed by the Borough annually and an occupancy inspection and permit is required if new tenants are scheduled to occupy the residence during the calendar year. Zoning Ordinance

The Department also is responsible for enforcement of the Borough Zoning Ordinance. Zoning permits are required when, for example, a new shed is placed on a property, fencing is installed, or new construction and/or additions to existing structures are proposed.
